 | English Language LearnersThere are resources available online and in our community to help English Language Learners move more knowledgeably in our American culture. It can be difficult understanding a different culture, as well as a different language.
Do any of these comments sound familiar? “My child’s teacher explained how I could help my daughter do better in school, but I didn’t really understand what she was saying. It’s so confusing, and I’m embarrassed to ask her to explain.” “The doctor told me I had some condition I’ve never heard of. I’d like more information, but I don’t know where to go. He’s too busy to talk to me.” “I think I’m eligible for medical insurance for my child, but I’m not sure. How do I figure this out?” “I’d like to start saving money for my future, but I really don’t know how to get the best return. I’ve read about ways to make a lot of money, but I don’t know if I can trust them. How can I tell a safe investment from a fraud?” “The Internet is great! Are there any sites where I can talk to other people learning about American culture and practice my English skills?” There are a number of organizations that can help – many of them for free or very inexpensively.
