In January 2009, operation of the Green Valley Library in Henderson, NV, will be transferred from Las Vegas – Clark County Library District to Henderson District Public Libraries. In July 2008, the position of Branch Manager will be filled to take a role in planning facilities needs, collection development, and staffing. After a closed period for necessary changes, the library will reopen early in 2009 with a new collection, a new staff, and a new program of services that will emphasize self-service, programming, and technology. The Branch Manager will play a key role in developing positive relationships with users and maintaining good staff morale. Projected plans for the Green Valley Library include: • Computer center with 20 full-service public computer stations • Additional study and conference rooms • Remodeling of departmental service desks • Emphasis on self-service • Programming for all ages • Mobile reference • Friends of the Library used book store • Coffee service • Floating collection shared among all branches
Master's degree from an American Library Association accredited college or university. Six years of library experience, including three years of lead or supervisory experience. Computer literacy required. Bilingual ability preferred. Must have a Nevada driver’s license or the ability to obtain one in accordance with Nevada state law. Required to drive personal or library vehicle for library business.
The Green Valley Branch Manager will participate, along with current Henderson Libraries staff, in realizing these plans, hiring branch staff, selecting the opening day collection, and other matters pertaining to branch operations. When the library reopens in the spring of 2009, the branch manager will be responsible for managing and coordinating the operations of a full service public library with a staff of approximately 25 FTE in a fast-paced, high-demand environment. Duties of the position include the following: • Coordinate and motivate branch staff in the development and maintenance of a high-quality materials collection and the provision of excellent public services. • Encourage new ideas and experiment with innovative services. • Promote library resources through high-interest adult programs and modern merchandising techniques. • Interpret policies, procedures, and administrative rules to library staff and library users; investigate and resolve complaints and problems. • Assist at all public service desks, and participate in the evening and weekend schedule rotation. • Oversee physical plant needs and request repairs and purchases. • Work with other members of the Management Team to plan library services and evaluate best ways to meet growing library customer volume. • Work with other library branches to ensure uniform quality of services throughout the district. • Participate in professional associations and activities in order to stay abreast of current information and trends in public library services. This position reports to the Assistant Director of the Library District.
Complete salary range: $60,382 - $92,872 annually. This position is exempt, hiring level commensurate with experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision and life insurance; HDPL pays 100% for employee and 82% for dependents. Position available Mar. 1, 2008 and will include weekend and evening hours.
Normally seated, standing or walking at will; normal physical activity including some bending, pushing, pulling, and carrying, which may range up to 45 lbs., upon occasion. Keyboarding and working at a computer monitor for extended periods required. Extended periods of standing may be required when working at service desk. Phone usage, reading, speaking, and listening required. Interaction with library users and vendors may include stressful situations related to resolving situations or problems
