Job Purpose and Summary

This work is detailed lead level work/paraprofessional work that supports the delivery of library services. Works independently, often from general concepts and goals rather than established procedures. Receives minimal direction from higher-level supervisory or management. May exercise functional and technical supervision over assigned library technician and other non-professional staff and volunteers in the absence of librarian or department head.

Qualifications

Two (2) years of college level course work AND two (2) years of technical services experience OR six (6) years of increasingly responsible technical services experience. Typing, word processing and/or data entry at a speed and accuracy level necessary for successful job performance. PC productivity applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentation and databases.

Tasks and Responsibilities

•Prepare materials to be sent to the bindery and maintain a record of all items until received back from the bindery. •Resolve problems with material such as mismatched items, damaged materials, missing pieces, etc. Answer the telephone and route calls within the Acquisitions and Bibliographic Services Department. •Maintain orderly appearance of Acquisitions and Bibliographic Services work area. •Order and maintain supplies and forms. •Enter purchase order in the District’s integrated library system; placing holds for patrons when entering patron request orders. •Use Internet for information and research. •Place orders through HDPL purchasing program for library materials, library supplies or office supplies. •Contact vendors for information and to resolve problems. •Assist with training staff and volunteers. •Reconcile materials orders against invoice and submit to department supervisor for final approval and payment. •Maintain purchasing documentation according to record retention policy. •Sort incoming materials and place on appropriate shelf for processing, including patron requests for prompt processing. •Create, pay and receive invoices in the District’s integrated library system. •Maintain standing order list for District. •Assign appropriate purchase order number to standing order invoices when received. •Indicate when a purchase order can be closed on the final invoice. •Locate and print invoices from vendors. •Serve as primary contact with other departments concerning processing questions or data entry problems in the District’s integrated library system. •Oversee and direct the work of lower level Library Technicians, Specialists and volunteers, including scheduling and making work assignments, assisting in the preparation of manuals and procedures, training, assisting in interview and selection process, and providing input to evaluation processes. •Attend staff, departmental, library, and district-wide meetings; serve as departmental liaison to district-wide committees; may participate in committee service and special events. •Assist in other departments as needed. •May service as person in charge of department in the absence of a librarian or department head. •May be required to drive personal or library vehicle on library business. •Perform other related duties as require.

Salary and Benefits

$17.74 - $27.30 per hour. Benefits include medical, dental, vision and life insurance, HDPL pays100% for employee and 82% for dependents. In addition, HDPL offers paid short and long term disability insurance, long term care, PERS membership, tuition reimbursement, 125 plan (health and dependent care reimbursement) , flexible schedule, generous vacation, sick, holiday and personal days. This position is non-exempt.

Schedule

Selected candidate must be able to work a Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. schedule. The position may require occasional weekend or evening hours.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This position works in a standard office/work room environment. Normal physical activity including some bending, pushing, pulling, and carrying, which may range up to 50 lbs., upon occasion. Keyboarding and working at a computer monitor required. Extended periods of data entry are required. Phone usage, reading, speaking, and listening required.
