Green Valley Library Frequently Asked Questions

Green Valley Library building
Why is the Green Valley Library transferring to another library district?

The Green Valley Library has always been located within the City of Henderson; however the Henderson Library District’s boundaries  did not include the Green Valley area of the city. In 2005, the Henderson Libraries and LVCCLD renegotiated their respective taxing boundaries and in so doing, the Henderson Libraries aligned its taxing boundaries to match those of the City of Henderson now and into the future. This agreement has been beneficial to both library systems in that each can now better plan for their service areas without the confusion previously associated with municipal and county land annexations. This agreement has also allowed our colleagues at LVCCLD to build a new library in the northwest valley to serve residents in that previously underserved area.

Is Henderson Libraries a department of the City of Henderson?

Henderson Library District is a separate geographic district, much like LVCCLD. We report to a Board of Trustees, five of whom are appointed by the Clark County Commission and two of whom are appointed by the City of Henderson Council. We receive an allocation from property taxes and consolidated taxes (sales, motor vehicle, etc). As a legal subdivision of the state of Nevada, our budget, upon approval of the Board of Trustees, is submitted to the state annually. It is also submitted to both Clark County and the City of Henderson.

I heard that Green Valley Library would be closed during the transition.
Where can I get library services?

The Green Valley Library will close in order to undergo renovations needed to provide new services.  During that time, Henderson Libraries will make regular bookmobile stops to supply materials for checkout.  We will also pick up returned materials from the book drops, and bring requested materials for pickup.  We may also provide a limited lobby service from the building itself.  We will post a schedule of hours and services later in the year.
And of course, Paseo Verde Library is easily accessible only ten minutes south on Green Valley Parkway with full services available.

Why can’t my group meet at the Green Valley Library any more?

The larger spaces in Green Valley Library are needed to meet growing demand for  library services, such as public computers and programs for all ages.  Henderson Libraries will provide limited meeting space for groups up to 12 people.  Reservations may be made up to two weeks in advance, once the library is open under Henderson Libraries’ management.
