HENDERSON, Nev. – Longing for your carefree days when your “Sesame Street” pals Grover and Big Bird taught you the alphabet and how to sound-out words? Or maybe you’re ready to introduce your little one to the thrill of puppet theater and classic stories. Henderson Libraries has the opportunity to do just that during Nevada Reading Week (beginning Feb. 25).
In honor of the 21st annual Nevada Reading Week, Henderson Libraries will host a puppet (marionette) performance at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the James I. Gibson Library –located at 280 S. Water St. , just off W. Basic Road.
Puppetry has been a timeless form of entertainment, delighting the young and old, since at least the 5th century. Puppet masters from the Fratello Marionettes Performance Company will bring “Peter and the Wolf” to life right before the eyes of kids young and old during the three free performances.
The wolfy adventures of Peter are in support of this year’s Nevada Reading Week theme of “Ride the Reading Train.” The statewide initiative brings teachers, librarians and parents together to celebrate reading.
Established in 1943 as one library in Downtown Henderson, Henderson Libraries now offers four locations throughout Henderson and cooperates with the other public libraries in Southern Nevada, the Nevada System of Higher Education, the Clark County School District and all other libraries around the state to provide quality service for Nevada’s residents.
