Henderson Libraries kicks off 21st annual Nevada Reading Week with 'Ride the Reading Train'

Local authors, suprise guests to read from their favorite books

HENDERSON, Nev. Kids young and old are invited to join in the fun of the 21st annual Nevada Reading Week, which will kick off with a chance to “Ride the Reading Train” at Henderson Libraries Saturday, Feb. 23, from 10 a.m. to noon at  the Paseo Verde Library, located at 280 S. Green Valley Pkwy., just off Paseo Verde Parkway.

Through “Ride the Reading Train,” local children’s authors and surprise guests will be reading from their favorite books and will have copies of their books available for purchase and signing.

The local authors scheduled to attend include meteorologist Kevin Janison, author of “Deputy Dorkface;” Eric Blank, “Success of Robert Fitzgibbons;” Patrick Derrick, creator of the “Animalations” book and CD series.

The free event is sponsored by the Henderson Libraries in partnership with ReadToMeLV.com and the Clark County Education Association Community Foundation. ReadToMeLv.com is a free community service that provides children access to stories read aloud on the telephone, or on video via the ReadToMeLV.com Web site. The service is supported by Clark County Education Association Community Foundation.

In addition, the library district will host a puppet (marionette) performance at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the James I. Gibson Library –located at

280 S. Water St.

Established in 1943 as one library in Downtown Henderson, Henderson Libraries now offers four locations throughout Henderson and cooperates with the other public libraries in Southern Nevada, the Nevada System of Higher Education, the Clark County School District and all other libraries around the state to provide quality service for Nevada’s residents.
