HENDERSON, Nev. – Henderson District Public Libraries will play an integral part in this year’s 11th annual ArtFest of Henderson, which will take place Mother’s Day weekend Saturday, May 10, and Sunday, May 11.
As part of ArtFest, Henderson Libraries will staff a tent at ArtFest that will include both a silent auction and rare and collectible book sale.
Co-sponsored by Henderson District Public Libraries and the City of Henderson’s Department of Cultural Arts & Tourism, the silent auction will include a variety of art donated by artists such as Dr. Richard Blanchard, Louis Cantillo and Deborah Mays. Hand-made jewelry, children’s toys and glass ornaments, in addition to paintings and photographs, will be up for auction.
The auction will be hosted under the big tent in the new Henderson Events Plaza for the duration of the ArtFest weekend. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Henderson Libraries Art Fund, which will provide money for various art projects throughout the year.
More than 100 antiquarian books of all kinds, including reference books, children’s books and fiction, will also be sold in the library’s book sale. Proceeds from the book sale will benefit Henderson District Public Libraries.
The Gibson Library located at 280 S. Water St. – just off Basic Road – will be closed during ArtFest but some services will be offered at the staffed tent in the parking lot. Additional services will include a children's art activity – coloring quilt squares with a scene from their favorite book, an Internet Cafe and a Friend’s of the Henderson Libraries used book sale.
ArtFest of Henderson features work from more than 200 national and local artists as well as food and live entertainment for the entire family. Festivities will stretch down Water Street from Army Street to just past Basic Road and will include surrounding areas including the new Henderson Events Plaza and the Henderson Convention Center.
The event, which draws nearly 50,000 attendees, has become a Mother’s Day weekend tradition in Southern Nevada. It will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both weekend days.
Established in 1943 as a single library in Downtown Henderson, Henderson Libraries now offers four locations throughout Henderson and cooperates with the other public libraries in Southern Nevada, the Nevada System of Higher Education, the Clark County School District and all other libraries around the state to provide quality service for Nevada’s residents.
