Henderson Libraries focuses on service

Librarians, staff help patrons enhance library experience

HENDERSON, Nev. – If information is truly a valuable treasure, then Henderson Libraries’ librarians and library team members not only have the treasure map, but they also know the best and quickest way to find the “X.”

In the fast-paced 21st century, it’s not enough to just have information. Almost anyone can do an Internet search and come up with thousands of pages of “information.” But how much of it is actually useful? A person could spend hours searching and end up nowhere.

Enter Henderson Libraries’ talented team of librarians and support staff.

“The librarians and support staff at all of our locations are top notch – some of the best in the state,” said Tom Fay, executive director for Henderson Libraries. “They truly care about helping our patrons find what they need while teaching them how to find things for themselves.”

More than two dozen people at Henderson Libraries hold a master’s degree in library science and are skilled in helping people find just what they’re looking for – whether it’s in tried-and-true book form or by using technology like the Internet.

While the stereotype of librarians may not have changed much over the years, many might be surprised to find the ways that librarians are staying current, or even ahead of the curve, in utilizing technology to help people find what they’re looking for and have the best possible experience at their local library. And although all of Henderson Libraries’ four locations offer thousands of books to check out, libraries have grown to become much more than just a room full of books.

In fact, a study released by the Pew Internet & American Life Project and the University of Illinois in January reported that despite the resources of the Internet, most adults still use libraries.

However, at Henderson Libraries, the library and the Internet don’t have to be mutually exclusive.

“We’ve done a lot to offer the latest technology in our libraries, and we’re always looking for ways to incorporate new technology and concepts into our patrons’ experience,” Fay said.

Henderson Libraries offers a variety of programs and opportunities to help the public find just what they need, whether it’s through the library’s Web site, mypubliclibrary.com, or at any of its four locations throughout the city.

Some of the many customer-oriented services at Henderson Libraries include:
