Community leader celebrate kick-off of One Book Henderson

Residents encouraged to read, discuss Mitch Albom’s "The Five People You Meet in Heaven"

WHAT: Henderson community leaders will come together to mark the kick-off of Henderson Libraries’ inaugural One Book Henderson program, a two-month effort designed to encourage all residents to read and discuss Mitch Albom’s “The Five People You Meet in Heaven.”

The community-wide program will include a variety of events hosted by Henderson Libraries and inspired by the book that will take place throughout October and into November, including a speaking engagement by Albom himself (Oct. 14).

The One Book movement was established in 1998 by Seattle librarian, book reviewer and best-selling author Nancy Pearl in an effort to bring the community together. What began as “If All Seattle Read the Same Book” has since grown to more than 350 programs that have taken place throughout the country.
 
WHO:   The City of Henderson has partnered with Henderson Libraries as a major supporter of One Book Henderson.

Scheduled speakers:

WHEN & Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 11 a.m. 
WHERE: The District at Green Valley Ranch (I-215 and Green Valley Pkwy.).
Event to be held at the statue on Main Street in the heart of The District.

The District will also be the sight of a community viewing of the movie “The Five People You Meet in Heaven” on Nov. 18 to conclude the 2007 effort. At the viewing, the book for the 2008 One Book Henderson effort will be revealed.
