Henderson Libraries and Embarq launch online program to help Henderson students with studies

'Answers 24/7' connects Henderson residents to information at all hours

HENDERSON, Nev. – Henderson Libraries and Embarq Corporation have launched Answers 24/7 – an innovative online education program – to help Henderson’s students and residents with their homework and information needs.

Already up-and-running, Answers 24/7 offers two options for Henderson library card holders looking for information – Live Homework Help and Ask a Librarian.

Live Homework Help, open to Henderson residents in grades four through 12 or taking college introduction courses, is staffed by licensed teachers that are knowledgeable in four subjects: math, science, English and social studies. Live Homework Help is available in English from 3-10 p.m. seven days a week and in Spanish from 3-7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.

“We’re always looking for new ways to serve the Henderson community,” said Tom Fay, executive director for Henderson Libraries. “After analyzing our services, we realized that we needed to create greater capacity outside of the library and its traditional hours not only for our youth but people of all ages and needs. Knowing we wanted to incorporate technology further into our services, we found that Answers 24/7 became a natural fit.”

The program’s second service, Ask a Librarian, connects Henderson residents of any age with professional librarians to answer a variety of questions via the Internet 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“EMBARQ is proud to support Henderson Libraries and the Henderson area, a community that is growing and thriving thanks to the hard work of students, teachers and administrators,” said Embarq Vice President Kristin McMillan. “Our hope is that Henderson students will use the Answers 24/7 program in a way that will aid them in reaching their full potential.”

A press conference regarding the service will be held Thursday, Sept. 27, at 9:30 a.m. at the Paseo Verde Library conference room – located at 280 S. Green Valley Parkway, just off the intersection of Paseo Verde Parkway and S. Green Valley Parkway.

McMillan, City of Henderson Mayor James B. Gibson, Henderson Libraries Executive Director Tom Fay, and Pat Skorkowsky, assistant superintendent of the Southeast region for the Clark County School District, will speak at the event and will be available to answer questions.

Computers will also be available at the press conference for those interested in learning first-hand how the program works. Log-ins will be provided for those who want to experience the program but don’t hold a Henderson Libraries card.

The Answers 24/7 program can be reached by visiting mypubliclibrary.com, clicking on the Answers 24/7 icon and logging in using a Henderson Libraries card number.

“Library services such as Answers 24/7 showcase the relevance of libraries in our day to day lives.” Fay said. “In addition to these online programs, people can access many of our materials right from their home or office computer. They have a wealth of information right at their fingertips for school, work or home just by having a free, active library card.”

Kansas-based Embarq offers a comprehensive range of communications services, including phone service, high-speed Internet, wireless, satellite TV and enhanced data network services, for individuals and businesses of all sizes.
